Let me begin by saying my dreamcatchers are not truly
considered genuine, because if I have any Native American blood it’s so diluted
as to be inconsequential (I’m quite a mutt).
Everything I know about dreamcatchers, I learned on my own, through
research and through a lot of trying and failing and trying again.
Traditionally, dreamcatchers protect you from bad dreams and nightmares. They do this by letting positive dreams through the hole at the center- where the charm is on a Dragon dreamcatcher- while negative dreams are tangled in the woven web, to be burned away by the light of day after the sun has risen. For that reason dreamcatchers should ideally be placed somewhere that the sun reaches during the day.
The Dreaming Dragon’s dreamcatchers are different, and this
is where I’m going to get rather superstitious. Dragon dreamcatchers have a charm rather than
an opening at the center. It’s important
to pick a charm that means something to you, because the charm is what focusses
the dreamcatcher on you specifically, rather than say, your brother down the
hallway. It gives the good dreams a target, so to speak. The personal nature of
these charms is why I started by crafting dreamcatchers for my closest friends
and family. I knew their natures well enough to know what charm to use.

I’d also like to note that if you are determined enough you
can learn to make dreamcatchers, too. I taught myself how- the World Wide Web
is full of guides; it’s a simple matter of searching them out. It’s been many years for me and the guides I
once found are long lost to memory, but I definitely recommend making sure to
find a video to learn how to tie the web- I distinctly remember needing that
visual.
